The director of the Chennai Meteorological Centre, Mr. Balachandran, informed that there will be rains for the next 2 days in the southern districts of the state of Tamil Nadu because of the depression formed.

The Northeast Monsoon had failed miserably. This caused severe drought conditions in Tamil Nadu. In this situation, the summer rain has arrived and it has rained in several areas including Karaikal. A maximum rainfall of 17 cm has been recorded in Karaikal in Puducherry.

Mr. Balachandran explained in this regard that the summer in the state has commenced on 1st March. However, the severest part of the summer will be in April and May. In this situation, starting from Kanyakumari ocean and ending in Madhya Pradesh via Tamil Nadu, a depression has formed. This will stay for another 2 days.

Because of this depression, there will be light to medium intensity rain in a few places in the southern district of Tamil Nadu and some interior districts including Coimbatore today (Monday, 6th March) and Tuesday (7th March).

In a few northern districts of Tamil Nadu state including Chennai, there may be rains in the next 2 days. This may be deemed as summer rains.
