Posted on: 02/Mar/2017 10:59:35 AM
Anil D. Sahasrabudhe, the Chairman of AICTE announced that it is mandatory for engineering aspirants to take up the All India Engineering Entrance Test starting from 2018-19. Taking part at the All India Council for Technical Education start up policy 2016 dissemination workshop, he made the announcement.

There are private deemed universities conducting their respective entrance tests. This badly hits poor students. By conducting such a common entrance test, troubles caused by these individual examinations can be eliminated. With this, students can gain chance to take up engineering course in various places just with this single exam. Furthermore, the exam will take place twice or thrice a year, thus allowing students to prepare better and with ease.

Proposals for counselling to decide whether it should be common or state-wise is kept open by the AICTE board. As far as the status of Tamil Nadu is concerned, there is more number of seats than total applicants. AICTE will not be giving new approvals for engineering colleges for those that have lesser than 30 percent of approved intake in the previous 5 years. Students from other states can be admitted in these colleges, but preference should be given only for students from within the state.
