Metro rail between Thirumangalam and Nehru Park to be operated from May

In order to ease the traffic congestion in Chennai, the Metro Rail scheme is being implemented. The works are going on in two corridors for the distance of 45 kms.
 
In the first corridor, trains will operated between Washermanpet and Chennai Airport and in the second corridor trains will be operated from Chennai Central to St Thomas Mount via Egmore and Koyambedu. In the first phase trains are now being operated between Koyambedu and Alandur.  After this the metro rail services began between Alandur and Airport. Very soon trains between Washermanpet and Chennai Airport will be operated and similarly trains between Chennai Central and St Thomas Mount will be operated.
 
In the first corridor, there will be railway stations at  Washermanpet, Mannadi, High Court, New Secretariat office, LIC, Thousand lights, Gemini, Teynampet, Chamiers Road and Saidapet.  
 
In the second corridor there will be railway stations in Central, Egmore, Nehru Park, Kilpauk Hospital, Pachaiyappa`s College, Shenoy Nagar, Anna Nagar East, Anna Tower and Thirumangalam. Apart from these 9 stations, there will also be 19 underground stations. Works regarding the railway stations are going on in rapid pace.
 
A stretch of 7.6 kms between Thirumangalam and Nehru Park is ready for final inspection. Safety Commissioner will be inspecting this stretch during the last week of March or first week of April. After the clearance, the stretch will be open for commercial operations.
