22 internet shutdowns that occurred in India costs the countrys economy

A study published by Centre for Technology Innovation, Brookings Institution says 22 internet shutdowns that occurred in India between 2015 to 2016 costs the country’s economy an astonishing cost of Rs 6000 Crores.
 
Centre for Technology Innovation, Brookings Institution has made a study on short-term shutdowns that occurred in 19 countries between July 1, 2015 and June 30, 2016.
 
The study says: There was 81 short-term shutdowns in 18 countries over the past year. There was internet shutdown in India for 22 times, in Iraq for 22 times, in Syria 8 times and in Pakistan 6 times. On various occasions, there was ban on internet for 71 days which resulted in a loss of Rs 6414 Crores. If the government loss is included it will be Rs 6500 Crores. Similarly in Saudi Arabia, there was a loss of Rs 3000 Crores and in Morocco there was a loss of Rs 2000 Crores.
