Robot babies for the childless couples

Posted on: 03/Oct/2016 3:15:24 PM
As birth rates are plummeting and many women are left childless in Japan, a synthetic baby companion called Kirobo Mini is design here by Toyota Motor Corp. This is a robot of hardly of palm size.

The demographic trend in Japan has put the nation in the forefront of aging among the other industrial nations. This results in contraction in population

The robot slightly wobbles just to emulate a seated baby that has not got the ability to balance itself yet, said the chief design engineer of Kirobo Mini, Fuminori Ketaoka. It is targeted to create an emotional connect.

The robot will also blink its eyes and speak in high pitched voice just like a typical baby. It will be sold from next year for Rs 39,800 ($392). A cradle also comes with it and this can also be used as a baby seat. This is as small that it can even get fit in car cup holders.

This new creation by Toyota joins the list of companion robots like the Jibo by Massachusetts Institute of Technology that is similar to swiveling lamp, Paro which is a robot baby seal from Japanese marketer used for therapeutic machine for elderly dementia sufferers.
