Facebook Messenger enjoys over 1 billion active users

A recent announcement by Facebook hints that the social networking platform has now got over 1 billion active monthly users. This makes it stand atop among the top 3 mobile apps across the globe. The main Facebook app is by far the most popular with 1.5 billion users. Messenger and WhatsApp come following this.
It is also to be noted that Facebook owns all these three apps, standing as a supreme in the mobile app segment. Google maps and YouTube fall closest to these apps, claim a new data.
Furthermore, Messenger stands next to Facebook in being the most popular iOS app. Over 17 billion photos and 22 million GIFs are being shared to friends via Messenger each and every month.
It was in the year 2014 that Facebook made Messenger a standalone app which mandated installing this app to continue chatting through handheld devices. Messenger thus became an essential part of their business.
Ever since Messenger’s launch, about 18,000 bots are launched on Messenger. And there are about 23,000 developers signed up for Wit.ai Bot Engine.
