Soil test for the proposed third broad gauge line from Tambaram to Chengalpattu

Soil test is being made now for the for the proposed third broad gauge line from Tambaram to Chengalpattu. Every day 250 EMUs are being operated in Chennai Beach-Tambaram- Chengalpattu sector. Out of this 170 EMUs are being operated up to Tambaram. Passengers have been stressing to extend the services of all the EMUs up to Chengalpattu since the city limits are expanding.
                                     
In view of the foregoing, Southern Railway has sent a proposal for the third broad gauge line from Tambaram to Chengalpattu. Ministry of Railways has accepted the proposal to create a third line for 30 kilometres between the two towns. Shri Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu, Hon’ble Union Minister of Railways laid the foundation stone for the 3rd broad gauge railway line between Tambaram – Chengalpattu during a grand function held at East Tambaram Railway Colony Ground in Tambaram, Chennai on 07.02.2016, This work is being done at a cost of Rs 256 Crores.
