Japanese scientists discover bacteria which can destroy plastic material

Posted on: 13/Mar/2016 2:34:09 PM
A variety of products including PET bottles, buckets, etc are being made in plastic and sold.

These products will not decompose in a short time. These items are used and thrown on the streets and other vacant spots keep in shape for long periods. This leads to the generation of toxic gases and gives rise to heavy pollution in the environment.

Generally, bacteria are capable of destroying most items be eating them out. This helps reduce the pollution.

However, the bacteria do not eat plastic items. So, they remain as they are in their places for very long time.

In this scenario, Japanese scientists have discovered that there are bacteria which can eat plastic as well.

The scientists from the Universities of Koeta and Kayo in Japan did the research on this.

They conducted their research in a bottle recycling plant when they discovered the bacteria that eat plastic.

As per these scientists, if the bacteria can be produced in large numbers, the discarded plastic items can be removed altogether. Thus, a solution has been found to destroy the non-decomposing waste plastic material.
