Arrangements for Police verification within 3 days of passport application!

In the current procedure, Police verification takes 7 days to get a passport after application. Presently, arrangement is being made to simplify this further.
A passport official explained:
When the public apply for passports, it takes more than 3 days for conducting police verification and getting the clearance. In Chennai Metro, the verification is quicker. However, in distant areas like Krishnagiri, Kanchipuram, Vellore, etc, it takes considerably more time to complete the police verification.
If the police department is provided with a ‘TAPE’ facility with internet to register all the details, it will be possible to send it from the Police Commissioner’s office immediately after verification. to the concerned passport offices.
This will facilitate Police verification completion within 3 days. Passports can be issued quicker.
There is a discussion regarding this between the passport offices and the police department. The cost aspect and the procedure for implementation, etc are being analysed.
