Ingredients
- Red Rice (Red Kavuni Rice / Puttarisi) – 1 cup
- Par- Boiled Rice – ¼ cup
- Urad Dal – 3 tbsp.
- Jaggery / Vellam – ½ cup
- Dry Ginger (Sukku) Powder – ½ spoon
- Seasame seeds – 1 spoon
- Grated Coconut – 2 tbsp.
Method of Preparation:
- Mix red rice, bar-boiled rice and Urad dal altogether. Wash thoroughly and soak it in water for about 4 to 5 hours.
- Drain the water completely and grind it in a mixer. In the half way around, add the Jaggery, dry ginger, Seasame seeds and grated coconut and grind well.
- Add required quantity of water and grind it till the batter should be that of dosa batter consistency.
- Keep it aside for about half an hour and you can use it for preparing Dosai.
- Heat a tawa, pour a ladle of batter in the centre and spread it in a circular motion. You can even prepare thick dosas like uthapam or thin dosa with this batter.
- Drizzle a tsp of oil around the dosa, once the edges starts lifting up, flip it over to the other side and drizzle another 1/2 tsp of oil.
- Once cooked, remove from tawa and serve hot with any chutney of your choice!
- Hot and Delicious Puttarisi Sweet Dosai is ready!
- The very next day, you can use the remaining batter for preparing idlies and cut those idlies into small cake sized pieces and serve it to kids.
Tips:
- Puttarisi is very beneficial for health.
- It is rich in several essential nutrients.
- Allow the Puttarisi to soak in water for longer hours.
- If you don’t like the sweet flavour; ¼ cup of Puttarisi, 1 tbsp of urad dal, 1 tbsp of fenugreek and grind well and add it to the fermented dosa batter, to prepare the dosa.
