Pollution Control Board: Excess dust particles in air on the day of Bhogi Festival!

The pollution control board has informed that the air pollution was very high on the festival day of Bhogi when old things are burnt.

The pollution was more pronounced in the areas of Perungudi, Royapuram, Alandur, Kodambakkam, and Tondiarpet.

The pollution control board conducted a survey at 15 locations throughout Chennai city during the festival of Bhogi, on Wednesday, 14th January.

The maximum pollution was recorded in Perungudi area. As per the statistics, there was 11milligram Sulphur and 11 milligram Sulphur-di-oxide in the air of 1 cubic metre volume before Bhogi. The dust particles inhaled while breathing was 113 milligram.

However, on the festival day of Bhogi, there was increased content of Sulphur, 15 milligram, Sulphur-di-oxide at 21 milligram and the dust particles at 262 milligram.

Next in the list of high pollution was the Royapuram area: Sulphur increased from 5 milligram to 11 milligram per cubic metre of air. Similarly, sulphur-di-oxide increased from 20 milligram to 24 milligram. The dust particles intensity increased from 111 milligram to 231 milligram pr cubic metre of air.

Alandur: Increase in 1 cubic metre of air: Sulphur – from 10 milligram to 14 milligram, Sulphur-di-oxide – from 20 milligram to 37 milligram, and dust particles – from 103 milligram to 228 milligram

Kodambakkam: Increase in 1 cubic metre of air: Sulphur – from 5 milligram to 11 milligram, Sulphur-di-oxide – from 19 milligram to 22 milligram, and dust particles – from 82 milligram to 216 milligram

Anna Nagar: Increase in 1 cubic metre of air: Sulphur – from 6 milligram to 8 milligram, Sulphur-di-oxide – from 18 milligram to 21 milligram, and dust particles – from 92 milligram to 213 milligram
