No transaction fee, service tax for property tax payment through online soon

In a bid to encourage more property owners to pay property tax through online mode, Chennai Corporation will soon introduce a new payment gateway without transaction fee and service tax next week. Currently, thousands of taxpayers reportedly avoid the online mode of property tax payment because of the additional expenditure involved in the process.
A senior official of the civic body told media personnel that ICICI, HDFC, IDBI, IndusInd and Punjab National Banks have agreed to waive the additional charges. After introducing the new payment gateway, property owners will be able to pay via debit card, credit card or net banking without incurring additional charges, he added.
