Chennai Metro Rail to be operate the first line from February 2015

After a delay of almost an year from the original target, the first line of Chennai Metro Rail is expected to commence operations by February, 2015.
The second stretch of metro rail, a major share of which is designed to be under the ground, is expected to start operations by the end of 2015.
The first line in the project, a stretch from Koyambedu to Alandur covering over 11 kilometer, has almost completed the works and it is expected to commence operations by the end of January or in February, next year, said R Ramanathan, director (projects), Chennai Metro Rail Limited. It may be noted that the Union Minister for Urban Development M Venkaiah Naidu has earlier said that the metro rail would be launched in March, 2015.
