No shortage of water in coming Summer

Posted on: 15/Dec/2014 5:56:40 PM
According to the Public Works Department report, there will be no shortage of water in the coming summer in Chennai.

The drinking water supply to Chennai City is being fulfilled with water from Poondi, Puzhal and Sembarambakkam lakes. Apart from these lakes, water is also supplied from Veeranam and Krishna Rivers to Chennai. It is usual that before the end of North East Rain season, these lakes would be filled. However, this year it did not happen so due to less rainfall in the suburban areas. It is less with only 3 DMC water in the three lakes instead of the usual 11 DMC water. This water can fulfill the needs of the Chennai City people for three months only. Though the situation is bad with these lakes, there will not be water shortage in the summer due to water supplies from Veeranam and Krishna rivers. Veeranam is providing 74 cubic feet water and Krishna is providing 300 to 359 cubic feet water to Chennai City every day.
