City gears up for Wipro Marathon on December 7

Around 12,000 runners will take part in the third edition of Wipro Chennai Marathon scheduled on December 7.
The event comprises of three categories: full marathon, half marathon and a 10-km run.
While the full marathon (42 km) will kick off at 4 a.m., the half marathon (21 km) and the 10-km run will begin at 5.15 a.m. and 7 a.m., respectively. The top five runners who manage to finish the full marathon will be given prize money of Rs. 50,000, Rs. 40,000, Rs. 30,000 and Rs 20,000 (for the last two places), respectively. The organisers said the runners would run past the city’s most important landmarks before they cross the finish line.
The organizers said that a special application (radio frequency identification) will be used to track time, and provide official and personal timing.
