Agreement reached: Cooking gas tanker lorry strike withdrawn!
The discussion with the cooking gas tanker lorry owners was successful following which, the strike by them is withdrawn
Hence, there would be no problems in gas supply.
The background
Southern Region Bulk LPG Tanker Lorry Owners’ Association functions with Namakkal as its headquarters.
This covers Tamil Nadu, Andhra, Kerala, Karnataka, and Pondicherry.
The Association has a contract with IOC, Hindustan Petroleum, and Bharath Petroleum Corporation. This contract expired
on 31st October. Earlier, the contract was for 3 years and subsequently increased to 5 years.
However, the tanker lorry owners asked for restoration of 3 year contract & this was accepted. The oil corporations floated e-tenders.
IOC had asked for 1683 vehicles; Hindustan Petroleum for 855, and Bharath Petroleum Corporation, 696 for a total of 3232 vehicles.
The vehicles were provided accordingly. However, IOC rejected 33 vehicles and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation rejected 5 vehicles citing some defects. The association demanded recheck and reconsideration declaring strike.
There was a discussion on this between the oil corporations & the association in Chennai at the Indian Oil Bhavan, Nungambakkam.
This discussion lasted over 2 hours and an agreement was reached. The strike was withdrawn based on the promise that the issue of rejected vehicles would be reconsidered..
With the problem getting resolved, there will be no problems in gas supply.
