‘Childline’ help centres in 3 citifies: Announcement by Minister Maneka Gandhi

New ‘Childline’ (emergency child care contact centres) will be opened in 3 cities – Chennai, Gurgaon, and Kolkata.
The central Minister for Women & Children Welfare development, Ms. Maneka Gandhi, informed that the development and performance of the childline centres in these 3 cities will pave the way for quality child care in 500 cities. These centres will serve as the main source of data and information for the rest of the country. All types of children’s health problems can be immediately attended.
Presently, ‘Childline’ is head-quartered in Mumbai.
This facilitates quick response only for the Northern & Western parts of the country. With the planned 3 new centres, the facility will be extended throughout the country.
So far, there have been 32,22,081 calls registered in the childline centre. Around 4% of these calls pertain to missing children.
