North-east monsoon season has set in Tamil Nadu.

With the failure of the North-east monsoon rainfall last, the public was quite eager to expect sufficient rainfall from North-east monsoon this year.

Answering this expectation, there have been widespread and heavy rains in several places throughout Tamil Nadu filling up the lakes and reservoirs.

Chennai Meteorological Centre Director, Mr, S R Ramanan informed:

The average rainfall expected during the North-east monsoon season between October and December is 44 cm.

So far, 32 cm of rainfall has been received. This is around 75% of the average expected.

North-east monsoon season will be active for some more time.

With another 27% rainfall (around 12 cm), the average expected rainfall would be met.

Hence, it is expected that 2 more depressions to be formed causing widespread heavy rains throughout Tamil Nadu.

Rain expected today (Wednesday, 19th November) in several Southern districts of Tamil Nadu and a few Northern districts.

Ramanathapuram (pamban) and Thirunelveli (Cheranmadevi) have recorded a rainfall of 2 cm over thelast 24 hours.

Kanyakumari & Rameswaram areas have received 1 cm rainfall.
