Continuous rains result in rise of reservoirs water level!

With the North-east monsoon in full swing, the continuous rains in Chennai have helped in rising of all drinking water reservoirs in Chennai.
North-east monsoon rains have intensified. As a result, there have been heavy rains in Tamil Nadu & Pondicherry.
The average expected rainfall during this season is estimated at 700 mm. Since the start of the monsoon season, the rainfall recorded in Chennai from 16th October till 14th November is 500 mm.
As a result, all the major reservoirs supplying drinking water to Chennai city have started filling up. The water levels in Chembarambakkam, Cholavaram, Poondi, and Puzhal lakes have been rising.
There has been a recorded rainfall of 326 mm till yesterday in Poondi and surrounding areas.
The water level in Poondi has risen to 125.25’ against the full capacity of 140’. There has been an inflow of water at 670 Cft per second.
Cholavaram & surrounding areas have recorded a rainfall of 424 mm. The water level has risen to 48.82’ as against the full capacity of 64’. The water inflow is at 35Cft per second.
Puzhal and surrounding areas have recorded a rainfall of 497 mm. The water level has risen to 38.41’ against the full capacity of 50’. The inflow of water is at 850 Cft per second.
Chembarambakkam and surroundings have recorded a rainfall of 431 mm. The water level has risen to 74.79’ as against the full capacity of 88’. The inflow of water is at 499 Cft per second.
