Supreme Court will hear Jayalalitha’s bail petition this noon

The bail petition filed by former Tamil Nadu CM Jayalalitha is to be heard in the Supreme Court today (17th October) noon.

The Bangalore Special Court charged her with 4 years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 100 crore on September 27 towards disproportionate assets case. She together with three of her associates – Sasikala, Ilavarasi and Sudhakaran were charged with 4 years imprisonment. Following this, all the four are put behind the jail now.

Jayalalitha then came up with a bail petition to the special court in Bangalore which however was denied. Taking the case forward, Jayalalitha has now filed a bail petition to the Supreme Court citing her age and physical condition. Similar petitions are filed for the rest three who are involved in the case.

Today, the 17th October 2014, the Supreme Court will hear the case in its first session. In general, cases of this kind will be heard at the Supreme Court during the very first session headed by the Chief Justice.

As in convention, Jayalalitha’s case will also be heard in the first session of Supreme Court as the 65th case. Chief Justice H.L.Dattu is said to hear it.
