Facility for payment of EB bill even on Sundays – to be introduced shortly!

The e-service centres in Chennai city will have the facility of payment of electricity bills even on Sundays soon.
Officials informed that there are discussions on this measure between Tamil Nadu Information Technology Department and TANGEDCO.
E-service centres, managed by the Tamil Nadu Information Technology Department, have been started with the main purpose of taking all services nearer to the resident public.
Currently, there are e-service centres in Chennai city.
They function from 10.00 Am to 5.00 PM on Mondays to Saturdays.
E-services offered in these centres include issue of income certificates, caste certificates, documents related to welfare schemes. EB bills can also be paid at these centres.
TANGED CO officials explained about the EB bill payment service:
Currently, EB bills can be paid at the EB offices from Mondays to Saturdays. However, most families living in suburban areas when both the husband & wife are working members, find it difficult to pay EB bills on time. TANGECCO has emphasised the need to extend the payment facility even on Sundays. The facility will be introduced shortly.
Presently,15% consumers make the EB bill payment on-line. In 2012, 8% consumers were paying EB bill on-line. After conducting awareness campaign on this issue, there has been an increase in the number of consumers paying EB bills on-line.
However, the officials recognised that there were problems in on-line payment in other districts apart from Chennai. For the payments made on-line, receipts will be sent later after the payment is realised.
If there are any failures in the on-line functioning through internet, the payments made on-line do get registered in the EB office website. Complaints have been received about this from the public.
