Centre rejects TN’s power demand

The power starved state of Tamil Nadu put forward its demand for allotting Centre’s unallocated share of 15% (150 MW) from Kudankulam Nuclear Plant’s 1000 MW unit. This however was rejected by the Union Minstry of Power as it allotted 50 MW to Andhra Pradesh.
TN was earlier allotted with 100 MW power in 2012. Despite this, the state has been requesting to allot 50 MW more power citing huge power shortage here. In an order dated September 29, the Power Ministry has allotted Andhra Pradesh with 50 MW power which will come into effect from the date of commencement of commercial operations.
As per this, KKNP will provide 562.50 MW power to TN, whereas Karnataka, Kerala and Pondicherry will receive 221 MW, 133 MW and 33.50 MW respectively. TN can anyway enjoy receiving 18.38 MW more power as per new allocation.
According to sources from KKNP, owing to turbine problem, the unit was forced outage from September 26. This is likely to resume functioning from October 20, and the commercial generation will start from next month.
