Flyover between Ega theatre and Valluvar Kottam to commence soon

The Mayor made promises in cutting down the travel time between Ega theatre and Valluvar Kottam, making it just a two-minutes travel by passing over a 2.76 km flyover between the two junctions. The work is said to get started with the expansion of Valluvar Kottam High Road along Nungambakkam high road junction to Independence Day Park. This lengthy stretch of 750m is likely to be a bottleneck as it requires acquisition of a large land area.
As per CMDA’s second master plan, the proposed width is 27m, said a corporation official. Several encroachments are found on this stretch. All these are to be studied, the land and its environment are also to be studied, he added. The project will be approved during the council meet this month.
Further, a public consultation will be had for the Rs 1100 crore project in July. This flyover will have an estimated land area of 38,000 sqm land and will run through the key places of the city. Out of this land, 27,000 sqm is required from private land owners which may cost about Rs 750 crore.
