On fixing the tariff for solar power by the Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission (TNERC), there are more number of proposals received by the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation from the Solar Power Developers. These proposals are to set up solar projects for a capacity of 300 MW.

The tariff for setting a solar photovoltaic plant will be Rs 7.01 per unit and Rs 11.03 for solar thermal plant, says the commission.

There are plentiful enquiries coming in for setting up the solar power plants. Offer letters are received from SPGs to set up 300 MW plants, says senior official from the TANGEDCO.

According to officials, the fixed is a very competitive one and they were expecting many solar developers to be interested in it. The guidelines to be followed for setting up the plant are getting framed now. Once this is done, the project will then get streamlined, say sources.
