26 roads in Chennai city to get wider footpaths

The city could soon get much more pedestrian friendly, with the corporation expected to complete 26 roads with wider footpaths by the end of this month.
The civic body had initially planned 71 stretches of roads with 3-metre-wide footpaths but it has issued work orders for 55 roads so far. Officials said the corporation widened footpaths along Besant Nagar 2nd Avenue, KB Dasan Road, Halls Road, Conron Smith Road, Kathipara Road, Police Commissioner’s Office Road, Mahalingapuram Road, Tank Bund Road and Pantheon Road and roads in Shanthi Colony.
