Application for metro water/sewer connections – On-line system to be introduced!

Latest information technology is being introduced in all government services.
Telephone bill, electricity bill, train/bus/cinema ticket booking, etc are paid/booked through the internet from home.
All government related services such as payment of property tax, metro drinking water bills are also getting connected on-line.
This facility is very useful for the public as it is very simple & fast.
Now, the facility for applying for metro water/drainage system is also being introduced on-line.
Just like the procedure for applying for passport on-line, the application for water/drain connection can now be done on-line.
.7 Lakh individuals are having the metro-water connection in Chennai.At least 1000 more are applying for new connection every year. With the urban expansion and new wards being formed, drinking water & drainage facilities are being given in stages.
Arrangement with the required software & data are being made for all the recent connections to get the on-line facility.
Chennai metro water is executing this with the help of World Bank Finance. The cost of the operation is Rs. 21.42 Crores.
Chennai metro water officials informed:
The facility for applying for water/drain connection will be available shortly. Necessary infrastructure including the software for a simple procedure is being made. Applicants will find it easy & quick.
Unnecessary repeated visits will not be required. The applicant can visit the office on the scheduled day with all required documents.
Once the proofs are verified, connection will be given. No middlemen will be required. The connection date will also be informed on-line. Unnecessary travel & expenses are avoided.
The pumping & distribution systems will be monitored. The functioning of the departmental workers will also be linked to this system.
