Engineering admissions put on hold by SC for two weeks

Posted on: 27/Jun/2014 1:00:53 PM
Vacation bench of Supreme Court consisting of Justice Vikramjit Singh and Justice Shiva Kirti Singh on Thursday deferred engineering admissions across the country by two weeks pending the disposal by All India Council for Technical Education of 521 applications for new engineering colleges and additional seats in existing institutions.

The court directed AICTE to complete inspections in a week and asked universities to complete affiliations by no more than a week after that so the admission process can start within a fortnight. The order could result in the addition of up to 9,000 engineering seats in the state.

Anna University will have its schedule for counselling, which was to begin on Friday, and colleges will make changes to the academic calendar for first year students.
