Chennai rains to take a back seat, dry weather ahead

Posted on: 08/Nov/2017 3:09:52 PM
Rains have already reduced over the state of Tamil Nadu including Chennai in the past 48 hours. In the past 24 hours from 08:30 am on Tuesday, Nungambakkam observatory recorded 20 mm of rains, while Minambakkam observatory reamed rain free.

Other than the capital, districts of the state that witnessed some rains include Nagapattinam 71 mm, Tiruttani 22 mm, Karaikal 19 mm, Coonoor 14 mm, Karaikal 19 mm, Tiruchirapalli 9 mm, Coimbatore 6 mm and Vellore 5 mm of rains.

According to Skymet Weather, a cyclonic circulation is persisting over Southeast Arabian Sea. The low pressure area over Malaya Peninsula is currently seen south of Andaman Sea and adjoining areas. In addition to this, a trough is extending between these two weather systems that is moving south of Tamil Nadu.

Thus, we can say that there is no major weather system over the state of Tamil Nadu, under the impact of which rains would have picked up pace. As a consequence, rains will take a back seat now gradually over the region.

Weathermen at Skymet Weather predict light to moderate rains and thundershowers to continue over South Coastal Tamil Nadu during the next 24 hours. During the same time frame, Interior Tamil Nadu including so-called ‘the Gateway to South India’, Chennai will witness light rains and thundershowers.

Thereafter, these thundershowers are likely to decrease further, paving way for dry weather to set in over most parts of North Tamil Nadu. Meanwhile, southern districts of the state will see isolated rains.

The capital city of Tamil Nadu will have mainly dry weather after two hours. Day will be comfortable with partly cloudy sky. Morning and nights will also remain comfortable over the area.

Maximum temperatures are most likely to settle between 30°C- 32°C, whereas minimums will be around 23°C-24°C.
