Deepavali celebration echo: Excess air pollution in Chennai

The Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board has made a detailed report on the air quality of the Chennai Metro city and the noise level. It has pointed that the level of pollution was excessively high in Sowcarpet area.

In the report, it is stated that the Tamil Nadu pollution control board has been monitoring and reporting the level of air pollution and noise level every year as ordered by the Supreme Court.

Accordingly, the levels of air pollution and noise were measured this year Deepavali as well in 5 places in the city – Triplicane, Besant Nagar, Nungambakkam, Sowcarpet, and T. Nagar.

The report confirms that the air pollution was quite in excess this year as compared to the last year. At the same time, the noise level was reported to be lesser than the previous year and was under better control.

It is mentioned as the fine dust particles floating in the sky gathered and stabilised in a single place without any drift, the pollution level was read to be higher. In the measurements taken at the 5 places in the city, Sowcarpet was the highest in the intensity of the fine dust particles in the atmosphere at 777cft.
