Railway ticket revenue falls in spite of Deepavali season

This year there has been lesser sales of railway tickets during the season of Deepavali festival. Railway passenger ticket booking fell by 12 per cent. 16.5 lakh fewer passengers have travelled by train compared to last year during October 1-10.   Nearly 13,000 trains are run every day by the Railways. Nearly 10 lakh passengers have opted for other modes of transport.
 
Railways has introduced surge pricing from September 9 this year. Because of this three lakh fewer passengers travelled by third AC and 1.5 lakh lesser opted for second AC berths. The revenue fell by 7.45 per cent which comes out to be 57.6 crore during the ten days
 
Several measures have been taken in the past months to improve freight earnings, but in vain.
