On-line railway ticket booking – facility to select the preferred berth number introduced!

A lot of passengers avail the on-line booking facility provided by the Indian Railways to undertake their journeys. These passengers include all age groups including elders, women, and children.
However, there is no facility in the current arrangement to chose their seats/berths numbers. Seats/berths were allotted as per the vacancies.
In the recent railway budget provided by the central minister, Mr. Sadananda Gowda, announced that a new facility will be introduced for the passengers to select their preferred seats/berths numbers and other required facilities such as bedding while booking tickets on-line. Preferred food items can also be indicated while booking on-line. These will also be supplied during the journey when payment will be collected.
Accordingly, IRTC website has undertaken installing new software to include these facilities. It is expected tickets ranging from a total of 2000 to 7500 will be reserved per minute.
Tenders have been floated for catering services to supply food items as preferred in the on-line booking. This project will cost Rs. 100 Crores.
The facilities will become effective from 15th August.
