Some time back, the intensity of the Coronavirus pandemic situation has resulted in online classes for the school students across Tamil Nadu. Initially, it was considered as superb or boon because the students were able to learn from their homes and the students need not have to come to their schools.

The bitter truth is that online classes are bane for students and parents. Issues like lack of network coverage, bandwidth, mid range smartphones etc have affected many students belonging to the government schools as well as government aided schools in TN.

The school education department has been conducting direct physical classes for the students from February 2022 onwards It must be taken into account that inaccessibility to uninterrupted online classes in the last 2 years.

The issues associated with that have made the school education department to stick to its decision of direct physical classes on rotational basis even if Covid-19 pandemic increases further in TN.

It is known that the TN health department is keen to complete vaccination for all the students. The school managements have been given strict instruction by the authorities to follow standard operating procedures or SOP and safety measures while conducting physical classes.

The direct physical classes would be continued till another big Coronavirus infection wave appears. This was mentioned by a senior officer belonging to the school education department. Feedback from various academicians and parents has been obtained for the direct physical classes.

He then spoke about how 2years back the school education department assessed the students of government schools after the schools reopened. It was shocking to note that more than 80percdent of the students belonging to classes 1 to `12 did not have sufficient qualifications to get promoted to higher class.

He added that more than 1.8lakhs students had dropped pit of the schools during the pandemic. The dropouts could be avoided only by means of direct physical classes.

Based on the student strength in the schools, the school education department has got detailed plans to conduct physical classes for the students. The senior official concluded that the second Covid-19 vaccination dose would be administered for every student in Tamil Nadu.
