Posted on: 06/Jun/2022 9:40:22 AM
The class 12 board exams have completed and now answer sheet evaluation is going in at various centres across Tamil Nadu. The student’s performance especially those from government as well as government aided schools have been poor this time. The public exams were conducted after a period of 2 years is a well known fact.

The teachers have revealed that many students have submitted empty answer sheets without writing anything and others have submitted answer sheets with just wrong answers.  According to a senior officer belonging to the school education department it was confirmed that the performance of many class 10 and 12 students in the board exams were very bad. The overall percentage this year might go down drastically. He then spoke about how the evaluators have been asked to be liberal in awarding marks for the students, especially regarding those students who have attempted the question and who have made smaller mistakes.

Lack of knowledge was cited as the major reason for the poor performance of students belonging to class12 at the board examinations this year. The class 12 students did not write board exams for the last 2 years. This was as per a senior teacher from government school in Vellore.

The syllabus for class12 has been reduced by 50pecdent and even then the entire syllabus was not covered by the teachers. This has led to poor performances by the class 12 students in the board exams now. In addition, many students did not even attend their classes that began from September 2021 onwards.

Many students were hoping that the TN government would announce all the passes and they did not study well for the examination. This was according to a teacher from Thiruvarur district. He then threw light on how while correcting the answer sheets of class 10 students graphs in mathematics subjects were also not attended by many. Truth is that graphs are supposed to be easy. He revealed that it was difficult to make the students pass if they scored just 5 marks. He concluded that many students have just submitted empty answer sheets.

Mr. P.K. Ilamaran, president of TN Teachers Association expressed his thoughts and spoke about how overall pass percentage was very important. He then pointed out that due to the Coronavirus pandemic many students belonging to the government and government aided schools could not access online classes also when compared to the students belonging to private schools. Point is that full marks must be given to the students who have attempted the questions in the right manner.

It was brought out by Mr. R. Dandapani, joint secretary of Tamizhaga Tamil Aasiriar Sangam that the students would be able to perform better in the next academic year if the schools opened according to the schedule.
