On 27th October, Sunday, Deepavali would be celebrated and many people would be going to their natives to celebrate Deepavali with their families is known.
The news now is commuters thronged the railway stations as well the bus stands. It must be taken into account that the 2 main railway stations in Chennai namely Central and Egmore saw huge number of people going to their natives. In addition to this, there was heavy rush in the 5 bus terminus like Koyambedu, Madhavaram, Tambaram Sanatorium, K.K. Nagar and Poonamallee.
It is worthy to mention that the southern railway had announced 3 special trains from Chennai on 25th and 26th October including an unreserved train from Tambaram to Kochuveli to be operated on Saturday at 8 am. The point is both these above said 2 main railway stations in Chennai were jam-packed with lots of commuters. There were few complaints from the commuters regarding the lack of support from the security personnel in facilitating entry in a well orderly manner. More than 2000 police personnel along with RPF personnel have been deputed at Central, Egmore, Mambalam and in Tambaram stations. This was as per senior GRP official.
As per Mr. Mahesh, divisional railway manager, Chennai division, arrangements have been made for adequate medical facilities, drinking water, and other basic amenities, etc.
