The deity of Lord Kallazhagar adorned with green silk enters Vaigai river

The most important event of the Madurai Chithirai Festival, the deity of Lord Kallazhagar entering the river Vaigai was performed in grand style.
The deity of Kallazhagar, seated on the carriage of the golden horse, entered the Vaigai river. The deity of Lord Veeraraghava Perumal was there to welcome and receive Lord Kallazhagar.
Lakhs of devotees have gathered on the Vaigai river area. Over 5000 police staff have been deployed for the protection of the large crowd of devotees.
The deity of Lord Kallazhagar, starting from the Azhagar temple, reached the Thallakulam Prasanna Venkatachalapathy temple at 9.30 PM yesterday (Sunday, 29th April) on the carriage of the golden horse.
In the early morning, the deity of Lord Kallazhagar was taken to the Thallakulam Lord Karuppanna Swami temple on the carriage of Vettiver and ‘Aayiram pon chapparam’.
Lord Kallazhagar started from here and surrounded by a large crowd of devotees, with the chanting of `Govinda, Govinda’, entered the Vaigai river at 5.45 to 6.13 AM.
Lord Kallazhagar is scheduled to start from here at 7.25 AM and reached Ramarayar Mandapam at 12.00 Noon.
At night 11.00 PM, Lord Kallazhagar will visit the Vandiyur Veeraraghava Perumal temple. Tomorrow (Tuesday, 1st May), Lord Kallazhagar will start at 11.00 AM on the carriage of ‘Sesha Vahanam’ (carriage of snake), will reach Thenur mandapam on the carriage of ‘Garuda vajanam’ and offer relief from the curse to the Manduga Maharishi. On 4th May, at 9.30 AM, Lord Kallazhagar will start His return journey to the Kallazhagar temple.
