Posted on: 30/Sep/2016 5:40:56 PM
Due to atmospheric air circulation, Chennai and its surrounding regions have been receiving heavy rain showers in the past few days. There was heavy downpour with thunderstorms day before yesterday. Maximum rainfall got recorded in Uthiramerur with 11cm rainfall.

This continual rain shower has filled most lakes supplying drinking water - Sembarambakkam, Puzhal and Sozhavaram. Nearly 2042 million cubic feet water is stored here. This water storage will help in meeting the drinking water needs of Chennaites for the next two months.

Sembarambakkam lake currently has 11.63 feet water out of its total 24 feet height. Nearly 151 cubic feet water is opened to meet the drinking water needs. In Puzal lake, 655 million cubic feet water is present out of its 3300 million cubic feet capacity. About 140 cubic feet water is opened for Chennai. From Poondi, 200 cubic feet water is opened. From Sozhavaram lake, 100 million cubic feet water is opened out of its total capacity of 881 million cubic feet.

There is not enough water stored in the Poondi lake because of insufficient rainfall. As per the status this morning, 20.51 cubic feet of water is present and 200 cubic feet of drinking water is opened to Puzhal lake.
