Greater Chennai Corporation installs concrete windows for trees

In order to facilitate proper water supply of rain water for the trees, the Greater Chennai Corporation has provided concrete windows for them.
Chennai city with its expansion measures 426 square feet. As per the advice of the environment ministry there should be 144 square feet of greenery for people to get oxygen but there is only 26 square feet of greenery in Chennai.
The trees that are in the pavements of Chennai are slowly dying because of the concrete pavements. The pavements are laid leaving no space of water percolation or aeration to the roots, resulting in the slow death of the trees. Unable to balance their weight and suffocation such trees get uprooted in gusty winds easily. Many of the environmental activists have been repeatedly requesting the Chennai Corporation to take necessary action with regard to this.
In view of this, the Chennai Corporation has started providing concrete windows around the tree for proper irrigation.
