In order to reduce the traffic congestion at the Vadapalani signal, tenders have been invited to build an over bridge below the metro-rail track. The project cost is Rs. 36 Crores.
Presently, test run are being conducted on the metro-rail tracks between Koyambedu & Alandur via Vadapalani. It is expected to be in public service during this year end or the beginning of next year.
At this stage, while metro rail tracks are being laid, a 2-tier over bridge was planned to reduce the traffic congestion during 2010. The 1st tier will be used as vehicles & the 2nd other for metro-tracks.
As per this plan, tenders have been invited metro-rail project authorities for building the first tier for vehicles. Tenders are to be submitted before 24th September. Tenders are expected to be opened on 25th September.
The second tier, built below the first tier which will have metro-rail tracks, will be a bridge at a height of 7 metres, length of 520 metres, and a width of 18.6 metres. The tenders are estimated at Rs. 36 Crores. It is planned to start the project immediately & complete within 15 months.
