Now Amma Free Wi-Fi zones in 5 cities of Tamil Nadu

This is a superb piece of news for the people belonging to the state of Tamil Nadu. It is now said that Amma Free Wi-Fi zones would be making its presence felt in 5 cities of Tamil Nadu and it would be highly beneficial for the people.

It must not be forgotten that in the year 2016 this superb scheme was introduced by none other than former chief minister of TN Dr. J. Jayalalitha. The plan to start free internet zones in 5 cities was a part of election manifesto of AIADMK government.

On Thursday, 5th April 2018 all eyes were on the present chief minister of TN Mr. E. Palaniswami as he launched the initiative.

One important point to note is every day for the first 20 minutes internet facility would be available for free of cost and Rs 10 per hour would be charged as rate thereafter. From the secretariat chief minister launched this superb initiative for the public and he used video conferencing technology for launching this initiative. This free internet or Wi-Fi facility would be available at Labour Statue in Marina Beach in Chennai plus in the central bus stands in Salem and Trichy.

Gandhipuram bus stand in Coimbatore and Mattuthavani bus stand in Madurai would also have this free internet facility. This free internet facility is provided by the state run Arasu Cable TV Corporation or TACTV. An amount of Rs8.50 crores is spent on this initiative.

This free internet facility would be provided in cities like Chennai, Trichy, Salem, Coimbatiore and Madurai in the first phase.

Other important persons who made their presence felt were Dr Manikandan who is minister for information technology, Mrs. Girija Vaidhyanathan chief secretary, Dr. B. Chandramohan secretary information technology department and Mr. J. Kumuragurubaran managing director of TACTV.

It is worthy to note that the chief minister Mr. E. Palaniswamy also inaugurated many buildings constructed in different colleges in TN districts by using video conferencing.

As many as 275 persons received their appointment orders from the chief minister. These persons are recruited directly by TNHB or Tamil Nadu Housing Board is known.
