The Chennai Meteorological Centre has informed that there are strong prospects for the low-pressure zone formed over the Bay of Bengal to intensify further.

It has warned the fishermen not to venture into the sea.

The Director of the Chennai Meteorological Centre, S. Balachandran, explained that the low-pressure zone formed recently over the centre of the Southeast part of the Bay of Bengal has intensified further and now is a depression zone.

Presently, the cyclonic format is in the southwest Bay of Bengal near Tamil Nadu southern coast and Sri Lankan coastal area. This is likely to intensify further. However, this may not harm Tamil Nadu. It may result in mild rain in the few places in the southern coastal Tamil Nadu.

Dry weather will prevail in the rest of Tamil Nadu. The low-pressure zone is expected to drift towards the western direction and cross the Maldives.

During this drifting period, strong winds with a speed of 35 kmph to 55 kmph may blow across the ocean area between Kanyakumari and the Bay of Mannar. So, fishermen are cautioned not to venture into the sea.

Chennai Metro City will remain partly cloudy over the next 24 hours. The maximum temperature will be 32 Degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature will be 24 Degrees Celsius.
