2 days festival of Akshaya Tritiya - 11000 kg gold sold in Tamil Nadu

Around 11000 kg of gold has been sold in 2 days (28th April and 29th April) on the auspicious days of Akshaya Trithiya in Tamil Nadu.
The jewellery traders informed that this is higher by 1000 kg as compared to sales in last year.
Most people, especially the Hindus, quite strongly believe that buying gold on the auspicious Akshaya Tritiya day will bring prosperity and wealth to the family for the rest of the year.
This year, the festival was celebrated for 2 days. So, large crowds of prospective buyers thronged the jewellery shops on these 2 days.
All the major and popular shops in Chennai like T.Nagar, Purasaiwalkam, Adyar, Mylapore, Chromepet, Tambaram, Broadway, and Washermanpet wore a festive look decorated with lamps and flowers.
The jewellery shops had also advertised in ample measure for this special 2 days occasion offering attractive concessions and new designs. Large crowds of women visited the jewellery shops and bought them.
There are around 35000 jewellery shops in Tamil Nadu. The jewellery traders reported that around 11000 kg gold was sold in these 2 days.
The president of the Chennai gold and diamond traders association explained that the people prefer to buy gold on the occasions like Akshaya Tritiya as compared to other ordinary days or festivals. The traders have been responding to this demand by introducing new designs and jewellery items every year.
This year more than 500 new design jewellery items have been introduced. The sales are up by 10 percent every year.
The General secretary of the Chennai gold and diamond traders association explained that last year around 10000 kg of gold was sold. This year, the sales have gone up and it was 11000 kg gold. Most of the people paid through cheques or credit/debit cards.
Some of the customers informed that only on days like Akshaya Tritiya, jewellery items can be bought at lower price. Also, new designs can be seen. This is why they prefer to buy on this occasion. There is also the belief that there will be prosperity by buying gold on this auspicious occasion of Akshaya Trithiya.
