Conditions to get tagged as ‘Smart City’

Cities lying along the cost or hills, and the ones with huge population of about one to four million can get themselves climbing to list of 100 Smart Cities.
Sources say, Union Ministry of Urban Development has given out a note to the state government mentioning all proposed conditions for being eligible to obtain the Smart City tag. The centre is in look out proposals from satellite cities, tourist cities, religiously important places, and the ones carrying at least 0.2 to 1 million populations. A committee of members will analyze these proposals before the Central government’s approval.
The approval will be given in two phases the first of which want the cities and states to submit an Integrated Smart City Development Plan as per Smart City Reference Framework. Following this, an initial amount will be sanctioned to get a comprehensive project report done.
In the second stage, the Project Management Unit will evaluate these reports and the empowered committee will give out the approval.

A Smart City is the one which has completely satisfying physical, social, institutional and economic infrastructure with it. This aims at working the best for all people irrespective of their gender, social status, economy, or age.
