Jio Home TV likely soon

Reliance Jio jumped into the market back in 2016. It made a massive entry into the telecom industry to such an extent that it marked an end to several leading telecom players. Now, it looks like Mukesh Ambani’s turn to bring a changeover in the dynamics of television industry, as reports say that Reliance Jio is working out for 3 services which are
- DTH – Direct to Home set-top-box
- IPTV – Internet Protocol Television
- Jio Home TV
There is not much clarity on Jio Home TV though. Reliance Jio is said to be planning for its launch soon. According to reports, Reliance Jio is currently testing Jio Home TV, and the works have been carried out in the past few years on Enhanced Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service (eMBMS). This is a hybrid technology that suits one to one system that are commonly used by telecoms instead of the one-to-many system used by TV and radio channels. With this new system, the company can boost its scalability.
With this technology, users can access content without any internet connection, as it will already be loaded in HD broadcast mode. A few months ago, Jio sources said that the technology was tested throughout the country.
Hence, with that Reliance Jio is likely to launch Jio Home TV before Reliance Jio DTH. The Jio Home TV will be of standard and high definition and priced only RS 400. In fact, the official Jio app called MyJio also reads about the launch of Jio Home TV.
There are other reports stating that Reliance Jio is eyeing on Jio Broadcast application which is an app for providing HD streaming for Jio customers. This can be accessed live through LTE devices. To note, the app was earlier removed out of Google Play Store.
Furthermore, users who have Reliance Jio data connection can avail Jio Home TV services at Rs 200 for SD channels, and Rs 400 for HD channels.
There is no official announcement regarding Jio’s strategy with DTH services. Reliance Digital TV is however already functional with wide spectrum of various HD channels. It comes as a package for one year where over 500 free channels are offered for 5 years.
