Pondicherry based JIPMER has performed 50 robot based surgeries in six months

Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research or JIPMER is a highly prestigious institute located in Pondicherry. It was in the year 1823 this medical education institute was established and since then this institute has been producing top class doctors.

The news that has emerged now is this JIPMER Pondicherry has done remarkably and has performed 50 robot assisted surgeries in just six months of time.

Thursday 18th January 2018 was very special to this prestigious JIPMER. On that day milestone of 50 robot based surgeries was achieved when team of doctors performed partial nephrectomy or surgical removal of part of deceased kidney with the help of robot. It must be noted that this surgery was conducted on a patient who had renal cancer.

It is now revealed that as many as 24 robotic surgeries have been carried out by the department of urology. As many as 10 surgeries have been conducted by the departments of surgical oncology and surgical gastroenterology. The department of obstetrics and gynaecology have conducted as many as 6 surgeries with the assistance of robot at this popular JIPMER.

Mr. S. C. Parija who is the director of JIPMER spoke about how other departments like paediatric surgery, cardio-thoracic surgery, ENT surgery, head and neck surgery would also join the above mentioned four departments in conducting this robot assisted operations soon.

This director of JIPMER expressed his happiness regarding the 50th robot assisted surgery that was done recently. The director of JIPMER appreciated the team of doctors comprising Dr. Sandeep Mishra who is the head of anaesthesiology, Dr Mohan, assistant professor of anaesthesiology, Dr. Manikandan, head of the department of urology for their superb efforts. He also praised the hard work put by other nurses, staffs of this institute.

It is worthy to note that this medical institute charges Rs 30000 for the general ward patients and Rs 50000 for the patients in the special ward for robotic surgery.
