Frequent power-cuts in your area? Power shortage may not be the reason

In several urban sections of the Chennai Metro City, people have been put to great hardships because of the unannounced and sudden power cuts.
However, presently, there is no power shortage in the state of Tamil Nadu. So, TANGEDCO has already announced that there are no planes for any pre-announced power-cuts.
However, in reality, power cuts do occur in the noon sessions are between 6.00 PM and 9.00 PM. This puts people to severe hardships in the already oppressive summer with no lights or fans.
This unannounced power cut occurs frequently in the suburban areas of the Chennai Metro city such as Tambaram, Selaiyur, North Chennai, Velachery, Mandavalli, Porur, and Ambattur.
Presently, the generation of power in the state is around 17500 MW. The overall current demand for power is only 15.349 MW as per TANGEDCO.
Further, from the month of July, Tamil Nadu will get an additional 4000 MW from the wind power generation. The retired director of TNEB, Mr. P, Sivakumar, informed that the state of Tamil Nadu has attained the state of self-sufficiency in electricity generation.
However, during the summer period, the demand for power being higher, the problem of ‘overload’ occurs from 6.00 PM to 9.00 PM affecting the transformers.
Currently, pre-announced power cut is being done only for planned maintenance works. Apart from this, there is no pre-announce power cuts in any are in Chennai.
It is also explained that in case the power cut lasts from 30 to 40 minutes, it may be only to rectify the overload problems in the transformers.
The secretary of the department of fuel energy, Vikram Kapur, visited the power stations in person and gathered the related information. He also explained that if the entire staff employed by the various electricity boards perform their duty to the best extent, most of the public complaints can be rectified and the power availability will be steady and uniform.
