A new study published in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition says that habitual drinker of coffee are less prone to Type 2 diabetes.

The study was conducted on a random group of 1300 people who were aged 18 years and above. The group consisted of men and women. All were from Athens. Drinking 1.5 cups a day was termed as ‘casual’ drinking and more than 1.5 cups was termed ‘habitual’ drinking.

The group was studied after 10 years. 54 per cent of the habitual drinkers were less likely to get Type 2 diabetes.

One of the researchers said, ‘An inverse relation between coffee intake and diabetes has been reported in many prospective studies whereas some have yielded insignificant results... Levels of serum amyloid, one of the inflammatory markers in the blood, seemed to explain some of the relationship between coffee and diabetes.’
