The president of the Human Rights Division, Ms. Jayanthi informed that the society’s out look of women has not changed much despite tremendous technology advancement.

An event stressing the safety for working women was organized by Survival Instinct on International women’s Day on Friday at Chennai.

Participating in the event, Jayanthi spoke:

Even though more women have started going to work and the technology has advances, society’s outlook on woman has not changed. Women working in night shifts in the IT Sector should be given the best protection. They should also be trained in the art of self-defence.

UNICEF Children Safety Expert Dr. Vidyasagar spoke:

There has been a gret reduction in the ratio of boys to girls under the age of 6 over the last 20 years. Before 20 years, the ration of boys to girls ration was 1000 to 920. Now, it has reduced to 1000-913. 42% of the women in India get married before the age of 18. They are deprived of higher education and working opportunities.

At least 2 cases of rapes are reported in the day’s news; There are many other rape cases which might not have been registered. Similar incidents happening in rural areas are not even reported.
