New Ration card within 60 days of application: Food Minister

Food Minister, Mr. R. Kamaraj has ordered that new rations cards should be issued within 60 days on receipt of application based on merit.
Free rice weighing 3,18,000 Metric Ton is distributed for 1,55,000 ration card holders every month. Other items like sugar, palm oil, Bengal gram, wheat, and black gram are also distributed. A stock of 12,00,000 Metric tons of rice is available.
The list of working time, holidays, and the telephone number for complaint (044 28592828), etc will be displayed in every ration shop.
4,232 new ration cards have been issued from June, 2011 to 31st January, 2014. 2,64,290 fake ration cards have been found and abolished.431 full-time shops and 823 part-time shops have been functioning over the last two and a half years to ensure that public get the essential time without any problems.
New ration cards will be issued based on merit/qualification within 60 days. If rejected, a rejection letter will be sent.
A plan to introduce ‘smart cards’ is under consideration.
