Ahead of the introduction of “Makkal auto” in the city on Tuesday, travelling through autos is expected to undergo a complete transformation very soon. The makkal autos were introduced just to serve like call taxis that the public can approach through phone calls. The overall control for all these calls is the Teynampet control room. Officials here will alert the driver nearest to the customer’s location. For these autos, the fares will remain the same as per the structure recently fixed by the state government.
Speaking to the chairman of Makkal auto, Mansoor Ali Khan, he stated that commuters can also enjoy watching TV programs in the android tablet placed in these autos. The android tablet and the hand held billing machine are placed inside water-proof boxes on the railing that lies between the passenger cabin and driver’s seat. In addition, a small printer to generate the bill is also placed. People can opt the use of credit or debit cards in case of the auto fare more than fifty rupees.
