Guindy railway station gets new pedestrian bridge to improve connectivity!

Posted on: 14/Mar/2023 11:23:14 AM
The Southern Railway is taking steps to ensure the safety of passengers by demolishing an old foot overbridge (FOB) at Guindy railway station in Chennai. The FOB had pillars located too close to the tracks on platform one, violating safety norms. The railway authorities have constructed a new pedestrian FOB at an estimated cost of Rs 6.5 crore that will link the eastern entrance with the metro station on the western entrance. The new FOB, which is wider and more spacious, will provide seamless connectivity to passengers from all five platforms to the exits on both sides of the station. The FOB is 98% complete and has already been opened for public use.

According to railway safety manuals, the minimum distance between the centre of the track and a permanent structure should be at least 2.36m. The old FOB will be demolished once the new one is commissioned, ensuring the safety of passengers at the station. The construction of the new FOB is a welcome development for commuters who have been facing difficulties navigating through the congested station. The move is part of the Southern Railway`s efforts to improve infrastructure and ensure the safety of its passengers.
